What a question! How are we helping?
Raising money for a charity you care about such as Pancreatic Cancer UK is fun as well as challenging. When mum was poorly she wanted me to make a change so that other families wouldn't suffer in the way we was! That was a challenge in itself as the facts around Pancreatic Cancer are so devastating but I knew we could do something. But what to do was my challenge, Jump out of a plane? Climb a mountain? so many choices! Mum loved to people watch and to see people dressed up in all their finery - The Purple Ball of Hope was created - this would be our fundraiser!
In 2014 we raised £6,266 and was totally blown away. Our target for the evening was £5000 so you can imagine our joy! Who would have thought we could have raised so much but we did - thanks to YOU for supporting us......
The night was so much fun and was over so quickly! So many auction prizes taken away to be treasured for years to come.... we had a free flight over Manchester where the winner was able to take control of the plane!! We spent ages giving away so many raffle prizes that had been donated by local businesses, our £20 balloon sale sold out in two minutes with guests scrambling to get one.
We danced the night away to the music of Bobby Kemp and his swing band relieving those tunes from the ‘rat pack’ era – guests sat in reception until the early hours soaking in the ambience of the evening and not wanting the night to come to a close......
With over 160 guests in attendance at the Village Hotel in Ashton making everything Purple the night was an outstanding success with so many raffle and auction prizes taken away. Each guest was given a free raffle ticket to win the top prize of a printer/scanner donated by Brother UK. The auction prizes included concert tickets, riding holiday in Spain along with a picture donated by Diane Jones and lots of memorbilia! The best prize of the night had to be a week in France which was hidden in a balloon which was bought for £20.00!
Here's to next year... so much planned before 2015 had finished!
2016 was definitely a year to remember....... we had prizes
galore, the wonderful Jersey boys to entertain us and we raised a fantastic amount yet again!
The team came together perfectly and produced an event that was outstanding, so much going on, the guests reveled in fantastic music, ate great food provided by the village hotel and all in all it was a 'reet' good night.
Auction prizes this year included a yacht donated by a spanish company which in itself raised over £540 for Pancreatic Cancer UK
